The idea for this blog started one ordinary Friday in the office. Amidst the print deadlines, unbalanced budget spreadsheets and meetings-about-meetings we realised we hadn't discussed one single thing about what had been happening in the marketing world that week. It happened to be the week that one of the most long standing TV channels finally had a facelift and everyone, including my Grandmother, was making up horse jokes.
We made the decision that we needed to get our proverbial heads out of the day job sand and the idea for They Call It Brand was born. Each week we are going to pick out our favourite brand communication or 'brandlight' as I (alone) like to call them. These 'brandlights' (still hoping it catches on) can be anything we have seen, read, heard, tweeted, pinned or shared in the week that grabbed our little creative minds and made us stop to think. We also thought we could throw a turkey in there from time to time just to give us a chance to point, laugh and learn from their mistakes.
We promise to keep the brandlights as thought-provoking and varied as possible and although we all own I Heart Innocent T-Shirts we understand that in the name of interest we can't feature our favourite brands every week. Even if they are super cool.
Before we begin I would like to introduce who 'we' are. We are the brand marketing team for the nursery retailer Mamas & Papas. We are two senior brand marketing managers Caroline & Claire and two brand managers Zoe and I. They call me Laura. The views are, as always, our own.
